The Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) is an estimate of the number of calories your body burns over a 24-hour period performing all vital bodily functions while in a state of rest. In other words, it represents the amount of calories per day your body burns, regardless of exercise. This number is dependent upon four factors namely age, gender, height and weight.

In order to lose weight, you simply need to increase your daily activity or consume fewer calories than those needed to maintain your weight or, ideally, both.

Use the calculator below to determine the number of calories you should limit yourself to for a given goal and activity level.
